PROJECT
PROGRESS

Please join this community endeavor to erect a 150 foot flagpole in downtown Cuba.

The Chamber of Commerce plans share the spirit of Cuba as far to the East and West as they eye can see. We will erect a 150 foot flagpole, flying a giant American Flag in the heart of downtown Cuba. The project is dedicated to local volunteerism that continues to make our region proud. The flag will be illuminated at night, and according to the manufacturer it will be the tallest flag in the Eastern United States.

The estimated cost of the project is $40,000. Community Bank, N.A. has graciously agreed to provide reconstruction of the park on West Main Street where the flagpole will be erected, and Ungermann excavating will assist with site work. The Cuba Garlic Festival Committee has committed to providing the flags into the future. The flagpole will be erected with as much local help as possible, requiring many hands during the exciting days of assembly.

Your contribution will be critical to the completion of this exciting project. We ask that you please consider one of the sponsorship opportunities available on the form below, however, all contributions are welcome. Final landscaping plans for the park are not complete, but be assured that your donation will bring to life a source of pride for our community and volunteers.

If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact the Chamber office. Members of the Flagpole Project Committee are also available for group presentations. Thank you for your consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why a flagpole?
The Village of Cuba, the Cuba Chamber of Commerce, and Community Bank, N.A. have put plans into action for the erection of the flagpole. Cuba has long been known for its community spirit, volunteerism and patriotism. Once completed the flagpole project will create a permanent memorial to Cuba’s volunteers and veterans of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

How tall will the flagpole stand?
The flagpole will stand 150 feet, and will be one of the tallest free-standing flagpoles in the Eastern United States.

Where will the flagpole be located?
Community Bank, N.A. on West Main Street has donated space in the park next to their building.

How large will the flag be, and will it be illuminated?
The flag will be 20’ x 38’. Lighting will be installed to light the flag at night at full and half mast.

Who will care for the flag and cover replacement costs?
The Chamber of Commerce will care for the flag. Two types of flags will be flown – one for winter conditions and one for summer. Should the flags start to fray, they are designed to be repaired rather than immediately replace. The annual cost of replacing the flags is estimated at $3000. The Cuba Garlic Festival Committee has pledged to cover this cost on an ongoing basis.

What is the budget for this project?
The total estimated budget for the flagpole project is $40,000. This includes the cost of the pole, shipping and installation. Community Bank, N.A. has graciously agreed to provide reconstruction of the park and flagpole base installation. Ungermann Excavating, Inc. has donated assistance with the site work and pole installation.

How can I contribute?
This is a project for all of the community, and it is easy for you to participate. Your support is very important, whether it be with a monetary sponsorship, in-kind donation, or endorsing the project to your family and friends. With your help our community spirit will be raised high.

Please contact the Cuba NY Chamber of Commerce with any other questions and for information on how you can help to sponsor this project.
